The Department of Prisons has arranged a special open opportunity for inmates in prisons across the island to meet their relatives, marking the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
Prisons Media Spokesperson, Commissioner A.C. Gajanaike stated that this visitor program was implemented throughout April 13th and 14th.
This facility has been provided covering all prisons in Sri Lanka, subject to the security guidelines and regulations introduced by the Department of Prisons.
Under this special program, family members visiting inmates are officially permitted to bring one parcel containing New Year sweets and food to their loved ones.
Additionally, the spokesperson further pointed out that relatives have the ability to provide the relevant inmate with another parcel containing sanitary equipment and materials prepared for the benefit of one inmate.
