Amidst the prevailing political tension in the country, the opposition alleges that the government is attempting to enforce the law against selected individuals by using security forces and law enforcement agencies. Among these allegations, suspicions have arisen regarding verbal orders received by some security officials, and sources indicate a trend where requests are being made for these orders to be provided in writing.
It is also said that officials working in connection with independent commissions are showing greater interest in requesting such written orders.Meanwhile, allegations have also been made that a plan to arrest several members of the Rajapaksa family based on the government's political decisions is underway. Accordingly, the family states that there is an attempt to imprison one or more of Shiranthi Rajapaksa, former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, and Namal Rajapaksa before the Sinhala New Year.
It is reported that an attempt was made to arrest Chamal Rajapaksa last week, but it was unsuccessful due to his being abroad. Furthermore, there are reports that future actions may be taken to arrest Shiranthi Rajapaksa in connection with the "Siriliya Saviya" project.
Security sources also state that government officials are focusing on taking legal action regarding allegations concerning the use of Central Cultural Fund money in relation to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. Meanwhile, a section of the opposition alleges that the government is adopting a silent policy when responding to accusations leveled against it.
Furthermore, although the New People's Front has submitted over a hundred complaints to the Bribery and Corruption Commission against several influential individuals, including the Speaker of Parliament, the leader of the front, Sugishwara Bandara, has stated that not even a preliminary investigation process has been initiated regarding these complaints so far.
