These days, a new kind of dating trend is emerging, centered in London, UK. Young men and women are now turning to these unique parties held under the theme "Date My Mate," bidding farewell to the use of online Dating Apps.

These events, organized in old-fashioned pubs in London, involve friends making a short PowerPoint presentation for their single friend, intervening to help them find a suitable partner.

In these presentations, friends humorously reveal to the audience funny photos of their single friend, their career achievements, and even their small weaknesses through slides. The popularity of this trend was clearly confirmed when all 150 tickets for the first major party of this kind, held at "The World's End" in Finsbury Park, sold out within a short period of 5 minutes. Annie, a 27-year-old who participated, says that continuous swiping on apps has become a great nuisance to her, and she is now eagerly hoping that her friend's two-minute presentation will lead to a boyfriend or a first date.

Similarly, 28-year-old journalist Johnny sees this as a wonderful 'vintage' experience where people meet in the old-fashioned way. Their presentations are so creative that when describing young women like Lauren, an engineer, friends address the audience very attractively, saying, "Just as she prevents walls from collapsing, she will always be a strength to you too."

The main reason for this shift is the strong disillusionment with traditional dating apps. According to statistics, the use of major dating apps in the UK has fallen by about 16% from 2023 to 2024, and more than half of users say they are mentally exhausted due to ghosting and meeting incompatible people. Therefore, many point out that using a commonly used office tool to find a partner live and entertainingly through friends is a renewal of social bonds that have been distanced by technology.

However, this is not merely a beautiful and entertaining experience. Being showcased in front of a large crowd can cause some discomfort or embarrassment for some, and for this to be successful, it is essential to have a group of articulate and sociable friends. Furthermore, there is curiosity about how far such a live method can be taken compared to the globally widespread digital networks.
