Piliyandala Police report that a thirty-nine-year-old mother of two, who worked as a teacher in England, died yesterday (29) evening in a boat accident on the Bolgoda River. This woman, named Samurdhi Anuruddhika Wanigasekara, faced this unfortunate incident while on a boat ride with her family members in the Dampe area.

However, her two children and four other individuals were rescued from this accident.

According to police investigations, she had arrived in the country a few weeks ago with her husband and children for a holiday. All arrangements had been made for them to depart for England again on the upcoming fifth day.

As stated by Piliyandala and Kesbewa Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, Mr. Ajith Wijesinghe, she had joined this trip with her young son, daughter, father, and a cousin. They were traveling in a boat belonging to a sports club owned by a friend of her cousin's husband. Suddenly, the boat's engine stopped, its front part lifted upwards, and water filled the rear part where the engine was, causing the boat to completely overturn.

At the time the boat overturned, only the two small children were wearing life jackets, and therefore they were floating safely on the water. However, investigations confirmed that the deceased woman and the other three adults were not wearing such safety jackets.

While the victims were clinging to the overturned boat, another boat arrived at the scene and rescued them, admitting them to the Piliyandala District Hospital. However, the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths confirmed that the woman had already passed away by the time she was brought to the hospital.

A problem regarding the safety provided to passengers by Bolgoda boat services has been highlighted here, and the teacher fell victim to this unfortunate incident due to the lack of a proper system to take necessary immediate action in an emergency.

The relevant post-mortem examination is scheduled to be held at Kalubowila Teaching Hospital.

Teacher Samurdhi Anuruddhika Wanigasekara was a loving mother to her children. The girls of St. Paul's Girls' School, where she studied, are also shocked by her passing.
