Massive protests have erupted across Pakistan against the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint attack by the United States and Israel. At least nine people were killed during a pro-Iranian protest held near the American consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, early Sunday morning.

Hundreds of protesters attempted to forcibly enter the American consulate located on Mai Kolachi Road in Karachi, and a large number of others were injured when security forces opened fire to disperse them. Police surgeon Summaya Syed confirmed to Al Jazeera that nine bodies were brought to Karachi Civil Hospital. Additionally, verified video footage showing injured individuals being taken to hospitals by others and protesters attempting to break into the consulate building is circulating across the internet.

The unrest is not limited to Karachi, with massive protests spreading to several other areas of Pakistan. Protesters have also set fire to a United Nations office building in Skardu, a city in the Shia-majority Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan, popular among tourists. Provincial government spokesperson Shabbir Mir told Reuters that a large crowd gathered and completely burned down the building, but no casualties have been reported.

Meanwhile, hundreds of protesters also gathered in front of the American consulate in central Lahore. Eyewitness Akeel Raza stated that some protesters attempted to damage a security gate hundreds of yards from the consulate, but police managed to peacefully stop them without any use of force. Consequently, no violent incidents have been reported from Lahore so far.
