A remarkable story has been reported about a student from Malabe Adarsha Boys' School, studying in the eleventh grade, who mistakenly received a travel bag containing over ten lakhs of rupees on a bus and returned it to its rightful owner. The student who acted in such an exemplary manner is Akila Deshapriya, residing in the Delgoda area and studying in the 11 'E' class of the same school.

Last Thursday morning, this student boarded a bus to go to school as usual, and due to the heavy crowd, he handed his school bag to a person seated on a seat. However, when he was about to get off near the school, the said person handed the student a different travel bag of similar color and shape.

Due to the similarity, student Akila did not notice the difference and took the bag to school. When he opened it in the classroom to take out his books, he saw a large amount of currency notes inside. The student immediately took action and informed the school's Assistant Principal, Mrs. Asha Chammi, about the matter.

Subsequently, the Assistant Principal presented the student and the travel bag to the Principal, Mr. Sisira Gunaratne. There, they managed to identify the owner using an account number found in a bank passbook inside the bag. After informing the Malabe Police, with the intervention of the police, the bag containing one million ninety-five thousand rupees (1,095,000) was safely handed over to its rightful owner.

It was revealed that the legal owner of this money is an officer working at an institution in the Nugegoda area. She, too, traveling on the bus, had handed her travel bag to the same person who gave the student the bag, due to the crowdedness on the bus. It was further confirmed that this bag swap occurred when they were getting off the bus.

Regarding this noble and honest act, the Acting OIC of Malabe Police, Chief Police Inspector Kaluwitharana, the Principal of Malabe Adarsha Boys' School, Mr. Sisira Gunaratne, and the entire teaching staff expressed their highest appreciation to student Akila Deshapriya.
