The Restaurant Owners' Association has taken steps to increase the prices of several restaurant food items from midnight today (31), coinciding with the electricity tariff hike scheduled to come into effect from tomorrow (01). Accordingly, the prices of fried rice and kottu, which are frequently purchased by consumers, will increase by Rs. 30.
Commenting on this price revision, the association's president, Mr. Harshana Rukshan, stated that in addition to main meals, the prices of other items would also have to be increased. Under this, the prices of all short eats have been increased by Rs. 10, and the price of a plain tea and a cup of milk tea has been decided to be increased by Rs. 5.
The Restaurant Owners' Association points out that the increase in electricity bills from April 1st has directly impacted this decision. The president emphasized that the monthly electricity consumption at any location where a restaurant is typically operated inevitably exceeds the 180-unit limit. He further clarified that this price hike was implemented with the aim of sustaining the restaurant industry without collapse, by bearing the massive electricity bill that will be imposed in the future under such circumstances.
