Police sources reveal that five individuals, including a seventeen-year-old youth, who were detained in a cell at the Wadduwa Police Station, behaved violently early yesterday (16) morning. They broke a water tap installed in the cell and threw it outside, and also hit the doors and walls with their heads while verbally abusing police officers with obscene language.
It is reported that those who behaved violently were a group arrested on charges of acting unruly during a music concert held at the Wadduwa Public Stadium the night before yesterday. A police team deployed for security at the music concert venue had arrested them and taken steps to detain them in the police cell. It is further reported that even inside the cell, they broke the water tap, hit the doors and walls with their heads, and behaved violently while using abusive language towards police officers.
Police state that these five individuals behaved violently when police officers attempted to question them to confirm their identities. Furthermore, police sources confirm that when an Assistant Superintendent of Police, who had arrived at the police station to inspect official duties, inquired about the shouting emanating from the cell, this group also verbally abused that officer with obscene language. The Wadduwa Police have launched extensive investigations into this matter, and it is reported that the arrested suspects are youths aged 17, 18, and 25, residents of the Moratuwa and Kalutara areas.
