Problems and Answers (Q&A) Arising When Creating the Fuel QR Code

Q1: Why does it show "Vehicle already registered" when trying to create a QR for a used (2nd hand) vehicle that has been purchased?

Answer: This is because the previous owner of the vehicle had registered it under their name and phone number. The new owner cannot register the vehicle until the previous owner deletes that QR account. This is a major problem for many.

Q2: What can be done if the previous owner cannot be contacted or is not in Sri Lanka?

Answer: According to the information currently available, there is no official and permanent solution for this yet. Many are requesting the government to reset the entire system (delete old data) and allow everyone to register anew.

An alternative solution suggested by social media users: Try registering with a new phone number using a passport number instead of the National Identity Card (NIC) number.

Q3: I no longer have the phone number / SIM card with which I previously created the QR. How can I create a new one?

Answer: If you don't have the old phone number, you cannot get the OTP required to log in to the old account. Then, when trying to register with a new number, your ID or vehicle will show as "Already registered".

An alternative solution suggested by users: Try registering using a new phone number that has not been used before and a different ID number that has not been used previously (for example, a foreign passport - Passport).

Q4: Even after entering all details correctly, why does the message "Registration Failed: Indicates a mismatch in vehicle number, chassis number, or vehicle type" appear?

Answer: You may have missed a letter or a digit when entering the information.

Important tip: One user (Thamala Abeygunasekara) has pointed out that if there is a hyphen (" - ") in the chassis number, it must also be included.

Q5: Even after changing the name (transferring) of my vehicle and creating a new book, why can't I create the QR?

Answer: This could be due to the Motor Traffic Department's (RMV) data system not updating immediately. Also, it is clear from comments that this happens because even if the book is changed, the previous owner's data remains the same in the system.

Q6: If a new vehicle has been acquired and needs registration, how can the old vehicle be deleted?

Answer: Get the OTP from the previously provided phone number, log in, and delete the entire profile. Close the page, reopen it, and then enter the new vehicle as a new registration; the same previous phone number can then be used.

Q7: How to register things like 48-CC scooters, grass cutting machines?

Answer: There is no clear official solution yet on the specific way to obtain a QR code for these.
