Mr. Masato Kanda, the current President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), arrived in the island yesterday (23) to commence his official visit. It is reported that he arrived at Katunayake International Airport around 11:40 PM on a special flight from Singapore.
Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Anil Jayanta Fernando, was present at the airport premises to receive the President, where the official reception took place.
Commenting on this visit in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) social media account, Mr. Masato Kanda stated that he arrived in the country at a very critical time when Sri Lanka, after facing a massive economic crisis, is successfully taking steps towards a path of sustainable development.
He further explained that providing the necessary support for this transitional process taking place in Sri Lanka has become a primary objective of the Asian Development Bank, and under this, their special attention will be focused on developing infrastructure, strengthening connectivity networks, and encouraging foreign investments in the country.
Accordingly, the President emphasized in the relevant post that he expects to work closely and cooperatively with Sri Lanka over the next few days, focusing on the aforementioned priorities.
