A female lawyer, who was convicted in connection with a charge of preparing forged deeds, has been sentenced to twelve years of rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court today (05). However, the court has ordered that this sentence should be implemented in such a way that it expires in six years.

Colombo High Court Judge Ms. Lanka Jayaratne announced this verdict after a lengthy trial. The judge stated in her order that the prosecution had proven the two charges against the defendant lawyer beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Attorney General had filed two indictments against her, one of which was the preparation of forged deeds related to a land in the Borella area. Accordingly, the judge decided to impose a lenient prison sentence of 12 years in total, with 06 years for each charge.

During the trial, it was revealed that the convicted lawyer is a 61-year-old mother of two.
