Samagi Jana Balawegaya Gampaha District Parliamentarian Harsha Rajakaruna revealed in Parliament that a conspiracy is underway to remove the current Secretary General from her post, following the removal of the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament. The MP expressed these views while participating in yesterday's (17) debate on the bill to abolish the MP's pension.
He pointed out that Parliamentary Deputy Secretary General Chaminda Kularatne has already been removed from his post, and that as the next step, there is a preparation to oust the Secretary General. The MP stated before the House that the final paragraph of the preliminary investigation report conducted regarding Mr. Chaminda Kularatne recommended that Parliamentary Secretary General K.A. Rohanadeera should be temporarily removed from her current position and a disciplinary inquiry should be held against her, on the grounds of his appointment being contrary to accepted procedure and thereby causing a loss to the government.
Mr. Rajakaruna strongly accused that the current government is exerting pressure on the Attorney General and the Auditor General, and in addition, is now interfering with Parliament and attempting to run the country as desired by 'Pelawatta'. The MP questioned whether the Speaker has been appointed to act according to Pelawatta's wishes, and emphasized that interference with independent institutions must stop and the country's democracy must be protected. He further stated that as the opposition, they will not allow these government interventions under any circumstances.
