The story the grandmother tells about the daughter who lost her life in her father's machete attack

A tragic incident is reported from Urugasmanghandiya, Delkada area, where a fourteen-year-old daughter was killed by a cinnamon-cutting machete blow inflicted by her father. The victim of this incident, which occurred last Friday night, has been identified as Dulmi Samaya Satsarani, a ninth-grade student at a school in the Karandeniya area.

Police investigations have revealed that the father's intense anger, upon seeing his daughter using a mobile phone hidden under a pillow in her bedroom, led to this murder. After dinner that night, the daughter went to her room, claiming she was going to sleep. When the father went to check on her, he saw her secretly using a phone, which provoked him, and he attacked her with a cinnamon-cutting machete found in the house.

The seriously injured student was admitted to Elpitiya Base Hospital with the help of neighbors, but hospital sources confirm that she had already passed away by then. The forty-one-year-old father, H.H. Indunil Pushpakumara, arrested on suspicion of the incident, has been remanded until February 6th after being produced before the Elpitiya Magistrate's Court.

Commenting on the incident, the suspect's mother, Mrs. Hewa Hakuru Kusuma Chandrani, stated that her son was a father who loved his daughter immensely. She mentioned that even though the daughter's mother had gone abroad and abandoned them, the suspect father had not even remarried for the sake of his daughter's future, and he spent most of his daily earnings on sweets and other necessities for his daughter.

The grandmother further stated that the crime might have occurred due to the father's inability to control his sudden anger when he saw his daughter secretly using a phone again, despite having previously seen her use one and forbidden it, and this time it was a phone received from another person. Urugasmanghandiya Police have launched a special investigation into the identity of the person who gave the phone to the student, and the post-mortem examination of the body was scheduled to be held at Elpitiya Base Hospital.
