Special traffic plan for the Sacred Relics Exhibition from Feb 5-11

A special exhibition of the Sacred Relics of the Buddha, brought from India, has been arranged to be held at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple from 06:00 AM on February 05, 2026, until 07:00 AM on February 11, 2026. For this meritorious event, the police have taken steps to implement a special security program and a traffic plan in the area around the temple during those days.

As this exhibition will be open 24 hours a day, the police request the public to cooperate with the security arrangements made by the police for the safety of devotees and to act in accordance with traffic laws. As a large crowd is expected, devotees have been advised to be vigilant about criminals such as pickpockets and thieves, and to pay attention to their personal belongings such as gold jewelry and wallets. Furthermore, mobile phones, luggage, jackets, and electronic devices should not be taken into the chamber where the Sacred Relics are displayed, and cooperation should be extended to the inspections carried out by security personnel.




A special transport service (Shuttle Service) has been organized for the convenience of devotees, and this service will operate from the parking lots at the old MOD premises, Port City, and near the Shangri-La Hotel to the Gangaramaya Temple. During the exhibition period, vehicular access will be restricted on several roads, and entry to the temple via Jinarathana Mawatha from the James Peiris Mawatha and Jinarathana Mawatha junction, Hunupitiya Wewa Road junction, Lake Crescent junction, and Park Street will be closed. Additionally, entry to Muttiah Road via the Muttiah Road junction from Staple Street and James Peiris Mawatha is also restricted.

Under the restriction of heavy vehicle traffic, entry to Perahera Mawatha and Navam Mawatha via Uttarananda Mawatha, and entry to James Peiris Mawatha from the Kompannaweediya junction are prohibited. Also, entry to Staple Street and Dawson Street from the Union Place Staple Street junction, entry to Hyde Park Corner from the Ibbanwala junction, and entry to Park Street and Hunupitiya Cross Road from Dharmapala Mawatha are restricted for heavy vehicles. Entry to James Peiris Mawatha from the Pittala junction is also restricted for heavy vehicles.




Parking is strictly prohibited on Navam Mawatha, Perahera Mawatha, Ramanayake Mawatha, James Peiris Mawatha, Jinarathana Mawatha, Muttiah Road, Altair Avenue, Staple Street, Dawson Street, Union Place, Hyde Park Corner, Baybrook Place, Park Street, Lake Crescent, Hunupitiya Wewa Road, and Dharmapala Mawatha. Both free and paid parking areas have been designated for visitors. Vehicles can be parked free of charge at Port City car park, the car park near Shangri-La Hotel, the old MOD premises, F.R. Senanayake Mawatha, Dhanapala Mawatha (Viharamahadevi Park area), Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha (Green Path), School Lane, Vauxhall Street car park, and the old Sathosa premises near Colombo City Centre. Paid parking facilities are available at the private car park near Gamini Roundabout, in front of Lake House, Access Tower building, the old Manning Market premises, and the Chamas car park.
