The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has issued an order to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct an expedited investigation against a monk named Rajanganaye Saddharathana, on the charge of continuously making various statements using obscene language on social media platforms. The Magistrate issued this order after considering the submissions that the said suspect monk had violated the bail conditions imposed by the court.
Previously, in July 2023, the court granted bail to this suspect monk, strictly warning him not to use obscene language again under any circumstances. However, it has been alleged that he disregarded these legal orders and warnings and continued to issue inappropriate and obscene statements through social media networks.
The lawyer representing Pahiyangala Ananda Sagarathero, the aggrieved party in this case, informed the court that the suspect monk had made statements using obscene language, targeting other monks as well as lawyers.
Accordingly, the Magistrate informed the aggrieved party to hand over all evidence and information related to the series of incidents to the Criminal Investigation Department. Furthermore, the Criminal Investigation Department has been ordered to conduct a comprehensive investigation based on the relevant evidence and submit a report on it to the court on April 22nd.
