A twenty-three-year-old woman, who was arrested in connection with a large-scale heroin trafficking operation and subsequently escaped while in police custody at the Mount Lavinia Police Headquarters, has been re-apprehended by the police. The suspect was arrested by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Mount Lavinia Police on the 17th of last month while she was exercising near the walking path in Kimbulawala, Mirihana.
This young woman, named Hansamali, a resident of Badowita, Mount Lavinia, was previously arrested by the Police Special Task Force (STF) on charges of possessing 36 grams and 650 milligrams of heroin. Subsequently, STF officers had handed her over to the Mount Lavinia Police Headquarters for further legal action and investigations.
Accordingly, while the suspect was being questioned under a seven-day detention order, she diverted the attention of police officers by stating she needed to use the restroom. While being escorted to the restroom under the protection of a female police officer, the young woman acted quickly, ran swiftly, and escaped on a motorcycle that was prepared near the main entrance of the police station. The police are currently conducting investigations with the aim of uncovering information about the person who took her away on the motorcycle and arresting him as well.
