Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Shiranthi Rajapaksa visited today to witness the sacred Sakyamuni Sarvagna Relics, which are enshrined at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo and made available for public veneration, considering them as the living Buddha. This wonderful opportunity to venerate the supreme sacred Sarvagna Relics, brought from the historic site of “Devni Mori” in Gujarat, India, is a moment filled with brotherhood that has given new life to the centuries-old Buddhist ties between India and our country.
Commenting on this, the former President stated that he extends his respectful gratitude especially to His Excellency Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing this noble opportunity to the Buddhist people of Sri Lanka, and also gratefully remembers the Acting Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Mr. Satyunjal Pandey, and all diplomatic representatives of both countries who coordinated this special event.
The former President also expressed his respectful and reverential gratitude to the Chief Incumbent of Gangaramaya Temple, Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thero, and the Maha Sangha, who organized this relic exposition and respectfully provided the opportunity for devotees to see, worship, and venerate them.
