Finally, L.S.I. Jayaratne is approved as the new Auditor General.

Senior Deputy Auditor General L. S. has been appointed as the new Auditor General of Sri Lanka.

I. Jayaratne received the unanimous approval of the Constitutional Council yesterday (03) for her appointment. The Council, which met at 12:00 noon today at the Parliament complex under the chairmanship of Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, made this decision after a lengthy discussion.

The Constitutional Council, having considered the names recommended by the President for the post of Auditor General, finally took steps to unanimously confirm Ms. Jayaratne's name. It is noteworthy that this new appointment has been made against a backdrop where nominations previously submitted by the President for this position had been rejected by the Constitutional Council on several occasions.

The post of Auditor General became vacant with the retirement of former Auditor General W. P. C. Wickramaratne on April 08, 2025. Subsequently, Mr. Dharmapala Gammanpila, a senior official of the Auditor General's Department, was appointed on an acting basis for the vacancy, and his tenure also ended on December 05, 2025.
