The Bureau for the Prevention and Investigation of Child and Women Abuse states that a businessman, who allegedly sexually abused over 36 children under the age of 18, has been arrested. The suspect, a resident of Peradeniya, Kandy, was arrested in connection with a complaint made by a person residing in the Kandy area.
During investigations conducted by examining digital devices taken into police custody from the suspect, it has been revealed that the suspect has sexually abused over 36 children under the age of 18, the Bureau states.
The suspect has video-recorded sexual activities with several other individuals, and the police state that a 72-hour detention order will be obtained against the suspect to identify the abused children and conduct further investigations. The arrested suspect has currently been handed over to the Kotahena Police. The 38-year-old suspect was scheduled to be produced before the court to obtain a detention order. Further investigations are being carried out under the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police Imesha Muthumala, Director of the Bureau for the Prevention and Investigation of Child and Women Abuse.
