A new police station is scheduled to be established in March 2026, centered around the Sahaspura Housing Complex and Wanamulla Dumpeka Watta area, which falls under the Borella Police Division. The Inspector General of Police, Attorney Priyantha Weerasuriya, has already granted full approval for this, in response to a special request made by Mr. Lucien Sooriyabandara, Senior Superintendent of Police and Officer-in-Charge of the Colombo South Division.

The main reason for this decision is the impact on public life due to constant clashes and shootings between two underworld gangs operating in the area, primarily stemming from drug trafficking. In a context where the younger generation is severely falling into ruin due to the activities of organized criminals and the drug menace, authorities have recognized that the existing police outpost alone is insufficient to ensure the security of the area. The residents of the area, including young children, have also made requests for the establishment of a new police station, and a petition signed by over a thousand residents has been submitted for this purpose.

It is reported that this step to establish a new police station has caused significant unrest within the drug network in the area. With the aim of disrupting this initiative, some individuals are already attempting to mislead the public by posting various false videos and messages on social media. However, officers including Borella Police OIC, Chief Police Inspector Mr. Kumara, and Sahaspura Police Outpost OIC, Police Inspector Mr. Pradeep Ediriweera, have already taken necessary steps to ensure the security of the relevant area.

During an investigation conducted by 'Ruhiru' in this area, residents who commented stated that the establishment of a new police station would create an environment where they could live freely with their children without fear. The residents also pointed out that the law-abiding people of the area fully support this decision taken by the Inspector General of Police, and that from now on, the future of their children and the lives of the people will be more secure.
