Under the leadership of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, leader of the National Freedom Front, a special press conference was held in Colombo under the theme 'Adults for Children', organized with the participation of civil society representatives at the request of the Maha Sangha. Although the Venerable Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara Thero, Chairman of the Surakimu Sri Lanka movement, had promised to attend this event, he did not arrive, and the former minister announced that an continuous Satyagraha would commence from Monday morning.

Subsequently, having arranged a meeting with the Mahanayake Theros of Malwathu and Asgiri chapters with short notice, Wimal Weerawansa went to Kandy on Sunday morning and met them, pointing out that removing pages from textbooks cannot provide a solution to this educational problem.

Following the blessings and advice of the Mahanayake Theros, the continuous Satyagraha commenced as planned on Monday morning, and at that time, it received the support of leaders from several political parties. The Sarva Jana Balaya Alliance expressed its support by holding a press conference, and its Vice Chairman, Professor Channa Jayasumana, came to the Satyagraha site and joined it. Meanwhile, although information was reported that the police were preparing to obtain a court order to ban the Satyagraha, the court had granted permission to hold protests in a manner that does not disturb public peace. The police officers who arrived with the court order also ensured to act very cordially with the gathered crowd, avoiding any conflicts.

Commencing the Satyagraha, Wimal Weerawansa stated that 'when Harini is hit, Lal becomes 'ooyiya'', and a few hours after the Satyagraha began, Minister K.D. Lal Kantha responded by sending a text message to Wimal Weerawansa. The message read: 'Wimal, be a national leader, tell people like Jayantha to hit us.' However, the day after the Satyagraha began, on Tuesday, the government announced that the reform process for the sixth grade under educational reforms would be temporarily halted. Cabinet Media Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that although the first-grade reforms would be implemented from this year, the sixth-grade reforms were decided to be implemented from next year.

Wimal Weerawansa, who watched the government's decision live, smiled and stated that his efforts had been successful and that it was time to stop the Satyagraha. As Wimal Weerawansa was heading home after ending the Satyagraha, he received a phone call from former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, during which the former President congratulated him, saying, 'I called you when the protest started, and now I'm calling because of the victory.' When Ranil Wickremesinghe asked, 'Wimal, what did you do to Harini?', Wimal Weerawansa smiled and replied, 'I didn't do anything', and Ranil Wickremesinghe ended the phone conversation by saying that Wimal had achieved victory by fulfilling the role that the opposition leader should have played.
