Namal Rajapaksa, the National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), stated that regular underworld shootings and crimes occur in the country with state patronage, and that drug-busting officers are transferred for that very reason. He made this statement while addressing journalists at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna headquarters on Nelum Mawatha. Namal Rajapaksa, who further commented here,
"At this moment, the government should understand the message of the people, not the signals we are giving. We are doing our politics. Even if the government implements its political agenda by threatening us with jail and intimidation, our political journey cannot be stopped within that agenda. That is why today we, as a party, are strengthening ourselves and moving forward."
"We, the ordinary people of the country, feel it. Because every day, somewhere in the country, an organized criminal shoots and takes one or two lives. I have said before that this government is clearly behind organized crime. Because there are organized criminals who are nurtured by the government. Today, the government claims to be apprehending drug traffickers. However, if you look, every officer who has seized kilograms of drugs has been transferred. The government has transferred every officer who conducted the most drug raids. Why is that? If they apprehend drugs or an organized crime committed by organized criminals who support their government, they remove that officer from that position."
