Former Minister Manusha Nanayakkara today (19) withdrew a fundamental rights petition he had filed before the Supreme Court. This petition was filed to obtain an order preventing his arrest by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) without due process during an investigation into the E8 visa agreements with Korea.
The former minister, through his lawyer, sought permission from the Supreme Court to withdraw this application.
A three-member bench of judges comprising Justice S. Thurairaja, Justice A. H. M. D. Nawaz, and Justice Priyantha Fernando granted permission to withdraw the application. Accordingly, the matter was dismissed.
Meanwhile, Additional Solicitor General Lakmali Karunanayake, appearing for the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, had filed limited objections against the continuation of this application.
Former Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, in his petition, had named several individuals as respondents, including the Inspector General of Police, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, and the Attorney General.
President's Counsel Saliya Pieris, Attorney-at-Law Dhanushka Rahubaddha, and Attorney-at-Law Jagadeesha Ranasinghe appeared for the petitioner under the instructions of Attorney-at-Law Praveen Prematilake. President's Counsel Lakmali Karunanayake appeared for the respondents.
