Chuti Weda Hamine, a 20-year-old residing in Migihinwatta, Ridivita, Polgampola, Agalawatta, who had treated patients suffering from snakebites and healed many lives, passed away prematurely on the 8th due to a sudden illness. She was Sanduni Nisansala, the granddaughter of the Migihinwatta Samarasinghe Weda lineage, and daughter of Pattugama Vidanelage.
Sanduni Nisansala, who studied for her A/Ls at Matugama St. Mary's Maha Vidyalaya, had mastered traditional snakebite treatment from the age of 6, assisting patients under the guidance of her grandfather, Samarasinghe, the snake doctor. After her grandfather's demise, Sanduni took over the snakebite treatment and has healed and saved the lives of a large number of patients who were brought to her home from time to time after being bitten by snakes. Consequently, residents say it didn't take long for her to become popular among the people of Agalawatta Polgampola area as Chuti Weda Hamine.
Having started treatment for an eye ailment last November, she quietly ended her life's journey on the 8th, unbeknownst to anyone. During her very short life of about two decades, she healed hundreds of people who had been poisoned by snake venom. She left this world unexpectedly, without a final decision even for death, unbeknownst to any of us. Her demise was a heartbreaking event for her parents, relatives, friends, and all who knew her.
