A controversial note posted on his Facebook account by Udaya Gammanpila, leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, regarding the demise of former minister and veteran politician Mr. Nandana Gunathilaka, has now created a strong discussion on social media. "Nandana Gunathilaka: Did he die?

or was he killed?" Through that note, Mr. Gammanpila questions whether Mr. Gunathilaka's death was natural or a planned assassination. Mr. Gammanpila states that although he had known Mr. Nandana Gunathilaka for about 26 years, a strong closeness developed between the two recently with the criticism of the current government's actions. He says that hateful responses were directed at him and Mr. Gunathilaka, especially due to the revelations regarding the appointments to the Bribery Commission.

According to the facts presented by Mr. Gammanpila, about two months before his death, Mr. Nandana Gunathilaka came to meet him in a frightened state. There, he stated that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had decided to assassinate him, and that it was more likely to happen through poisoning or a car accident. Mr. Gammanpila's note also states that Mr. Gunathilaka reminded him that the party has a history of assassinating those who left the party and those who criticize it. Furthermore, Mr. Gammanpila mentioned that social media activist Priyanjith Vitharana had also revealed information about a plan to assassinate three people, including Mr. Gunathilaka, and that when he visited Mr. Gunathilaka while he was hospitalized, he was in a very critical condition.

However, social media users have strongly protested against this statement by Mr. Udaya Gammanpila. The majority of those who responded to this Facebook post accuse Mr. Gammanpila of trying to gain political advantage by even selling the body of a deceased person.

Many of those who responded have harshly criticized Mr. Gammanpila, calling him a "cannibal" and a "political orphan." Only a handful of people accept Mr. Gammanpila's argument that the death is suspicious, while the majority have stated that this is merely a political smear. While wishing Mr. Nandana Gunathilaka eternal peace, the public has expressed their strong disgust at the politicization of such a sensitive occasion.
