A controversial incident has been reported where a young woman from Kandy, Central Province, who was not legally admitted to the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, attended lectures while also enjoying hostel facilities for a period of two months. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the student in question had appeared for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination in the Biology stream and obtained only three ordinary passes (S), and therefore was not eligible for university admission.

Since lectures for new students at the Jaffna Faculty of Medicine began last November, this young woman has been engaging in academic activities with other students without registration. Claiming to have gained university admission, she stayed in the Faculty of Medicine's women's hostel and participated in lectures and practical activities for two months, all while deceiving the Faculty of Medicine's administration.

This fraudulent act was uncovered last Friday (16) during an academic activity where students were divided into groups. Although there should have been 202 medical students for the year 2025 at the University of Jaffna, the presence of 203 students on that day led to the problem. The suspicion arose among other students due to the student in question not having a student registration number, prompting them to immediately inform the faculty authorities.

Following the incident, some unrest also arose within the faculty, and an internal investigation conducted by the university administration confirmed that she was a student impersonating another. Commenting on the matter, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Mr. R. Raveendran, confirmed the incident was true and stated that the facts have already been reported to the University Grants Commission for further legal and administrative action.
