Anguruwathota Police said that a 35-year-old young man, who fell ill and was hospitalized after consuming kottu, died between the night of day before yesterday (24) and early morning yesterday (25).
The deceased was an unmarried young man named K.D. Mahesh Sanjeewa Nandadeva (35), a resident of Nadeeuyana area, Batagoda, Galpatha.
The deceased young man, who was employed at a private institution, returned home after finishing work around 8:30 PM the day before yesterday. He had brought kottu when he came, and investigations revealed that he had consumed it with his elder brother. Around 10:30 PM, he experienced vomiting and abdominal pain and was immediately admitted to Galpatha Hospital. After receiving initial treatment there, he was transferred to Horana District General Hospital, where he died early yesterday morning, police said.
However, unfortunately, investigations have confirmed that his elder brother, who also consumed kottu with the deceased young man, has not developed any illness. An inquest into this death is scheduled to be held at the Horana District General Hospital, and it will be conducted by Horana Inquirer into Sudden Deaths and Justice of the Peace, Mr. Sumedha Gunawardena. Police further state that the exact cause of death can only be revealed after this examination. Anguruwathota Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
