Gokaralla Police had initiated investigations based on a complaint made by a husband, stating that his married wife, residing in a house in the Gokaralla area, had been abducted by two unknown individuals who arrived on a motorcycle, held something to her face, and rendered her unconscious. However, during the investigations, it was revealed that she had not been abducted, but had deliberately fled with her illicit lover, an army soldier.
After spending three days having fled with her illicit lover, she decided to return home due to intense regret and pain caused by remembering her legal husband. Accordingly, she went and surrendered to the Warakapola Police, and after Warakapola Police informed Gokaralla Police, a team of police officers went there and brought her back.
This woman, who married about two years ago, has no children,
and investigations revealed that she had been in a relationship with an army soldier residing in another area for some time. She had planned to flee with her lover when her husband went to work, and for this purpose, she had also involved her sister's thirteen-year-old school-going son, who was alone at home.
She had instructed the child that she was going with an uncle, and if anyone inquired about it, to say that she had been abducted by two unknown individuals who arrived on a motorcycle, held something to her face, and rendered her unconscious. When the husband returned home and inquired about his wife, the minor child, agreeing to his aunt's request, provided the false information exactly as he had been taught, and the husband, believing the statement, went to Gokaralla Police and lodged a complaint.
The police had suspicions about the incident of a woman being abducted by individuals arriving on a motorcycle from the very beginning, and everything was revealed during subsequent technical investigations. Upon examining the short messages exchanged between the runaway woman and the minor child, it was confirmed that she had inquired from the child whether the people at home were looking for her and what they were saying.
After examining the child's mobile phone, the police questioned him, and the child admitted that he "didn't tell anyone the truth because his aunt told him not to." It was also revealed during police interrogations that she had been careful enough to lock the pet dog, which was at home, in a room to prevent it from following her.
Although the illicit lover had rented a house in the Mawathagama area, after she decided to return due to remembering her husband, it was revealed that a female relative of the soldier had brought her to the Warakapola area in a van and dropped her off. Under the instructions of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (Attorney-at-Law) Ajith Rohana, in charge of the North Western Province, Gokaralla Police Station OIC Chief Inspector E.M.I.B. Wijayaratne and Crime Investigation Division OIC Chief Inspector Krishantha Jayasinghe, along with a team, are conducting further investigations into this matter.
