To fulfill the request made by the Mahanayaka Theros of the three Nikayas to designate the upcoming Vesak Full Moon Poya Day on May 30th instead of May 1st,the government is taking steps to do so, Cabinet Media Spokesperson, Minister of Mass Media and Health, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa emphasized. Speaking at the media briefing to announce Cabinet decisions, the Minister stated that this decision will be implemented according to a message sent by the Mahanayaka Theros to the President.
As there are instances where two Poya days fall in certain months,
the special attention of the Mahanayaka Theros has been drawn to this matter, and he pointed out that it is expected to carry out those activities exactly as per their advice and requests. The Minister further stated that the Ministry of Public Administration is already making the necessary arrangements in this regard, and the Vesak Poya day designation will take place according to the instructions of the Maha Sangha.
