Searching for those who sent fake emails claiming a bomb in Kandy

The police suspect that the information received about explosives being hidden inside the Kandy District Secretariat was a hoax intended to alarm the public. Issuing a statement this morning (27) regarding this, the police said that further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Computer Crime Investigation Division.




Yesterday (26), a message was received at the email address of this office, stating that bombs were hidden in five locations within the Kandy District Secretariat.

After informing the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Kandy Division about this information, officers from the Kandy Police Station, the Police Canine Division, the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Police Special Task Force, and officers from the Army Bomb Disposal Unit were summoned, and a massive search operation was launched.




During these extensive search operations, which were carried out from morning until evening on December 26, no suspicious explosives were found. Accordingly, the police further emphasized that they suspect this information was intended to create panic among the public, and that further investigations into the incident are being conducted through the Computer Crime Investigation Division.
