Due to the procession organized by Helena Balika Vidyalaya in conjunction with the annual Duruthu Maha Punyotsava at Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya, the police have taken steps to implement a special traffic plan within the Kelaniya police division today.

This procession is scheduled to start today, December 23, 2025, at 3:00 PM from near Helena Primary School, and from there, it will proceed past Galborella and Walankada Junction, enter Vihara Mawatha, travel along Biyagama Road to Kelanisiri Roundabout, and enter the temple premises through the main entrance of Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya.

As the procession begins its street tour, traffic on the relevant roads will be restricted, and the police request drivers to use alternative routes. According to the implemented traffic plan, all vehicles coming from the Kiribathgoda Tyre Junction will be diverted towards Thorana Junction from Nungangoda Junction. Similarly, vehicles traveling on Biyagama Road will be directed towards Kelanisiri Roundabout via Gangawella Road from near the Biyagama Road entrance of Rajamaha Viharaya, and vehicles coming from Peliyagoda will be directed towards the Biyagama Road entrance on Gangawella Road via Kelanisiri Roundabout.

During the procession, the road section from Kelanisiri Roundabout to Vihara Mawatha will be completely closed. Until the front part of the procession reaches Vihara Mawatha Junction, only exits will be allowed for vehicles going towards Biyagama on the Mulleriyawa - Biyagama Road. After the last part of the procession enters Vihara Mawatha from the Walankada area, vehicles traveling from Nungangoda towards Biyagama and vehicles entering Varagoda Road from Biyagama will be released under the supervision of police officers.

In addition, steps have been taken to direct vehicles entering Varagoda Road from Peliyagoda Pattiya Junction and Kandy Road towards Thorana Junction. Vehicles coming on Biyagama Road will be directed towards Varagoda from near the bus stop or via Vihara Mawatha Junction, and as the procession approaches Kelanisiri Roundabout, the police have stopped vehicles from entering through the Biyagama Road entrance and are working to restore the road to normal.

The Police Media Division further states that drivers and the public should cooperate with the police by paying attention to this traffic plan.
