A 17-year-old school student died in an accident in Kalugala.

Badulla: A 17-year-old school student died in a road accident that occurred on the 19th near the Kalugala bend. The accident occurred when a pedestrian, who was walking, was hit by a cab. The Badulla police stated that the pedestrian was also injured and hospitalized.

The deceased student has been identified as 17-year-old Padinji Vijayakumar Dilan from Ilukpotha, Badulla, Delkit Estate. He died in the accident while being admitted to the Badulla Hospital.

Police further stated that the accident occurred near the Kalugala bend in the Badulla police division. The accident occurred when a cab belonging to the Divisional Secretariat Office in Agalawatta, which was traveling from Badulla towards Agalawatta, hit a pedestrian who was walking from Agalawatta towards Badulla. The pedestrian, 21-year-old Navaraja Kasun, who was driving the cab, was admitted to the Nagoda Hospital for further treatment. The police also reported that the driver of the cab was admitted to the Badulla Hospital for treatment.

Badulla Police Station OIC Prasanna Wadisinghe stated that the Badulla Police Traffic Division is conducting further investigations regarding this.
