For the purpose of assisting consumers in obtaining safe and quality food during the festive season, Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) and Administrative Public Health Inspectors have deployed a team of nearly 2,300 personnel and commenced inspections.
Health officials stated that these special inspections are being carried out due to the high possibility of food contamination and spoilage caused by the current heavy rainfall. Accordingly, vendors selling food items unsuitable for human consumption have been prosecuted.
Advice has also been given to the public regarding the purchase of food. Officials have pointed out that special attention should be paid to key factors such as price, expiry date, production date, color, and the overall quality of food items.
Officials further stated that legal action has been taken against several vendors who were found selling food items unsuitable for human consumption.
These inspection operations are continuously active throughout the festive season to protect public health and prevent the spread of foodborne diseases.
