According to the latest forecast issued by the Department of Meteorology, the cyclonic storm named "Ditwah" is currently centered approximately 80 km northeast of Jaffna. This system is expected to move northwestward, leaning towards the north, and reach the Tamil Nadu coast of India by November 30. A significant reduction in the rain and windy weather conditions affecting the island is anticipated from tomorrow onwards.
However, during tonight, intermittent rain or thundershowers may occur in the Northern, North-Central, Central, and North-Western provinces, with heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm possible in some areas. Additionally, intermittent rain is expected in the Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, with moderately heavy rainfall of about 50 mm anticipated in some places within these areas. There is also a possibility of scattered rain or thundershowers in other parts of the island.
Regarding the wind conditions, wind speeds in the Northern, North-Central, Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district, may occasionally increase to 50-60 kmph, with a risk of developing into squally winds reaching 70-80 kmph. Other parts of the island may also experience moderately strong winds of 50-60 kmph occasionally. Therefore, the Department of Meteorology urges the public to take necessary precautions to minimize hazards caused by strong winds.
