Update: Hanwella Water Levels Recede, Nagalagam Street Rises at 12:30 PM

Update: 12:30 PM Hanwella Water Level Down, Nagalagam Street Up

 According to the latest water level report issued by the Department of Irrigation at 12:30 PM on November 30, 2025, flood conditions have been reported in several major rivers across the island. Notably, the water level at the Nagalagam Street gauge on the Kelani River has been recorded at 7.45 feet, exceeding the major flood level and continuing to rise.

A major flood situation is also reported from the Hanwella area, but its water level is recorded at 10.75 meters and shows a gradual receding trend. This drop in water level is welcome news for some of the affected residents around the Kelani River.

In the Glencose (Avissawella) area, the water level is recorded at 17.47 meters, indicating a minor flood situation, which is also receding.




Considering the Kalu River basin, the water level in the Putupawula area is reported at 4.25 meters, indicating a minor flood situation that is currently rising. Data reports indicate that while a minor flood situation persists in the Ellagawa area, the water level is receding, and in the Ratnapura area, the water level remains at an Alert level. Additionally, a minor flood situation has been reported from the Kalawellawa area of the Kuda River, but its water level is currently receding.

Minor flood situations have also been reported from the Horowpothana area of the Yan Oya, the Badalgama area of the Ma Oya, and the Doonamale area of the Attanagalu Oya. However, data reports show that water levels in all these locations are currently receding, and further drops in water levels are expected in these areas.

The Department of Irrigation states that water levels in other major river basins such as the Gin River, Nilwala River, Walawe River, Kirindi Oya, Menik Ganga, and Kumbukkan Oya have now returned to normal levels. As of the issuance of this report, no significant flood risk or unusual rise in water levels has been reported in the Mahaweli River or other major water sources.
