The celebration of Mr. Jeevan Thondaman's wedding, a prominent figure of the Ceylon Workers' Congress and a United National Party Member of Parliament, which was scheduled to be held in Kotagala, Nuwara Eliya, has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions affecting the area. The MP announced that this event, scheduled for today (30), was postponed considering the rainy weather prevailing in Nuwara Eliya and its surrounding areas.
Mr. Thondaman, who got married in Chennai last week, issued a special note to his invitees and party members, stating that this decision was made with the aim of avoiding any inconvenience they might face while traveling amidst the uncertain weather conditions.
However, concurrently, a wedding reception organized at a leading hotel in Colombo on Friday night was held grandly with the participation of nearly a thousand guests.
A notable aspect of this event was the attendance of many opposition MPs, but neither President Anura Kumara Dissanayake nor any government MP participated.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also did not attend this event, but a group of current and former MPs from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya were seen participating. Former Presidents Maithripala Sirisena, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and Ranil Wickremesinghe attended the ceremony and engaged in cordial discussions with the attendees.
During the event, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe shared an interesting anecdote with former Minister Lakshman Kiriella, stating that Mr. Kiriella should be in Parliament to represent the opposition. Many viewed this as an indirect criticism aimed at the current leadership of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.Photos from the previous wedding ceremony below
