Update: 123 Dead, 130 Missing – A District-Wise Breakdown

 According to the latest report released by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) today (29) at 9:00 AM, the death toll due to the prevailing disaster situation across the island has risen to 123, with 130 individuals confirmed missing. Data reports indicate that 373,428 people belonging to 102,877 families across 25 districts have been affected by these adverse weather conditions.



Considering the district-level casualties, Kandy District has been the most severely affected, reporting 51 deaths and 67 missing persons. Additionally, Badulla District has reported 35 deaths and 27 missing persons, while Kegalle District has reported 9 deaths and 24 missing persons. Deaths have also been reported from Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Ampara districts, as well as from Kurunegala, Monaragala, Jaffna, Hambantota, and Galle districts.




In terms of the affected population, Gampaha District reports the highest number, with 87,977 individuals from 23,634 families. Puttalam District has 83,217 affected individuals, and Colombo District has 82,266. A significant number of people are also affected in districts such as Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee.

The Disaster Management Centre further states that 488 safe shelters have been established for the displaced population due to the disaster, currently accommodating 43,925 individuals from 13,690 families. In Badulla District alone, 97 safe shelters are operational, while 76 centers have been established in Kandy District.
