President Imposes Emergency Law Through Gazette

 In accordance with an order from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Presidential Secretary has issued the emergency law gazette. This law has been enacted to facilitate the deployment of the military for disaster services.



President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued an extraordinary gazette notification regarding the deployment of armed forces personnel with the aim of ensuring public safety and maintaining peace in the country. This gazette, numbered 2464/30, was published on November 28, 2025.




The relevant notification states that this step has been taken due to the existence of a public emergency in Sri Lanka, primarily to ensure public safety and the well-being of the country. The President believes that the intervention of the armed forces is essential, especially for the uninterrupted maintenance of essential supplies and services vital for public life. This order has been issued in accordance with the powers vested in the President by Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance, Chapter 40, as amended by Act No. 8 of 1959, Act No. 6 of 1978 of the National State Assembly, and Act No. 28 of 1988.

This order will be effective from November 28, 2025, for the deployment of armed forces across all administrative districts of Sri Lanka. This extraordinary gazette was issued in Colombo by Presidential Secretary Dr. N. S. Kumanayake, by order of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
