
Colombo Additional Magistrate Oshada Maharachchi yesterday (25) ordered Mr. Viranjith Thambugala, Managing Director of Aura Lanka Company, who pleaded guilty to the charge of not properly submitting Value Added Tax (VAT) reports for the third quarter of 2019, to pay a fine of Rs. 25,000.
When this complaint was called before the court yesterday, the defendant Mr. Viranjith Thambugala appeared in court, and his lawyer informed the court that his client pleaded guilty to the relevant charge.
Here, the lawyers appearing for the defendant further stated before the court that Mr. Thambugala had paid taxes in Sri Lanka for approximately seven crores of rupees earned from abroad, and that various politicians had attempted to misuse these funds.
Lawyer Dinesh Perera, representing the Department of Inland Revenue, presented facts to the court in this case, and the Additional Magistrate, after considering the presented facts, proceeded to impose the fine as the defendant pleaded guilty to the relevant charge.
