Massive Landslide in Alawathugoda: 50 Families Feared Missing

 As a result of the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the island, a massive landslide has occurred in the Rambukella area, which falls under the Alawathugoda Police Division on the Kandy-Matale road. The disaster reportedly took place around 1:00 AM today on the Ankumbura – Alawathugoda road, with reports indicating that the village has been almost entirely engulfed by the landslide.

A large number of people are reported missing due to this disaster, and no definitive information regarding casualties or property damage has been confirmed yet.

Local residents state that approximately 800 families resided in the affected village, and nearly 20 houses were located at the site of the landslide. Local reporters have revealed that close to 50 families are currently missing.

It is reported that relief teams have faced difficulties reaching the disaster site due to the prevailing adverse weather and road blockages. Villagers are appealing to authorities for urgent assistance from relevant agencies to rescue those affected, while Alawathugoda Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
