Considering the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the island, the Railway Department has decided to suspend all train services on all routes after 6:00 AM today (28). Authorities indicate that this decision has been implemented because operating trains could be unsafe amidst the current rainfall.
Mr. Chandrasena Bandara, Additional General Manager (Operations) of the Railways, stated that the continuous torrential rains have created a high risk of landslides, floods, and falling trees along the railway tracks. He further emphasized that this emergency measure had to be taken to ensure the safety of train passengers.
