Shiranthi Rajapaksa’s Siriliya Account Under Renewed Investigation

Deputy Minister Confirms Revival of Siriliya Saviya Probe

In a statement made in Parliament, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala, announced that investigations have been reopened into a fake bank account allegedly operated under the name “Siriliya Saviya”, associated with Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Fraudulent Account Linked to Prominent Public Bank Branch

The controversial account was reportedly opened on November 14, 2006, at the Suduwella branch of the People’s Bank on Darley Road, Colombo 10. The account, numbered 143/1/001/4/6235069, was allegedly created without submitting the required legal documents and is now considered a fraudulent financial instrument.

Missing Mandate Letter Raises Alarm Over Tampering

Watagala stated that the account’s mandate letter, which outlines who can operate the account, had been illegally removed from bank records. This act is seen as a possible conspiracy to conceal fraudulent activity and has triggered renewed legal scrutiny.

Millions Deposited and Withdrawn Over Hundreds of Transactions

Records indicate that the account saw significant financial activity, including:

882.8 million rupees deposited in 88 separate instances

305.6 million rupees withdrawn over 129 transactions

An additional 10 million rupees in fixed deposits

The account listed Shiranthi Rajapaksa as Chairperson, Kalyani Dissanayake as Secretary, and Nirosha Jeevani as Treasurer.

Financial Crimes Division Reopens Full Investigation

Following initial probes, the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) has now reopened a formal investigation into the origins and operations of the account. According to officials, this could result in legal action and potentially direct questioning of Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

Other Major Allegations Against the Rajapaksa Family

In Parliament, additional financial allegations were brought to light:

152 million rupees allegedly transferred to CSN TV from the National Treasury

35 million rupees allocated to Gotabaya Rajapaksa for the construction of family burial grounds

208 million rupees obtained by Basil Rajapaksa for the purchase of a private residence in Malwane

Could Shiranthi Rajapaksa Be Summoned for Questioning?

Legal sources suggest that Shiranthi Rajapaksa may soon be summoned by investigators in connection with the Siriliya Saviya account. If confirmed, this would mark a serious escalation in legal pressure on the Rajapaksa family and could potentially intensify public and political fallout.

A Deepening Crisis for the Rajapaksas?

With multiple allegations and reopened probes gaining traction, the political and legal troubles surrounding the Rajapaksa family appear to be deepening. Public confidence in former ruling elites continues to erode, as calls grow louder for accountability and transparency
