Unknown gunmen open fire near Narahenpita – Lawyer injured, important documents stolen

Former Executive Director of the National Lotteries Board, Thushitha Halloluwa—who recently made headlines over a statement linking the President to the Greek bond issue—has reportedly been targeted in a threatening shooting incident in the Narahenpita area.

The incident occurred around 8:30 PM today (17th, Saturday), when two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire, aiming at both the sky and Halloluwa’s vehicle, police reports confirm.

The attack took place on Dabare Mawatha, near the Narahenpita Kings Hospital. While Halloluwa was unharmed, his accompanying lawyer, Dinesh Dodangoda, sustained injuries, according to police spokespersons. Additionally, a file in Halloluwa’s possession was reportedly taken by the assailants.

Narahenpita Police have launched a special investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to identify the attackers.

Thushitha Halloluwa had previously faced a financial crimes investigation related to corruption at the National Lotteries Board. He recently alleged in media statements that the President was involved in a Greek bond-related fraud. Following this, the Criminal Investigation Department initiated a special inquiry over allegations that Halloluwa had made defamatory remarks against President Anura Dissanayake, summoning him to provide testimony.

Police officers arrived promptly at the scene after the shooting and facilitated Halloluwa’s admission to the hospital. His vehicle reportedly sustained significant damage in the incident.
