Adrián Simancas, a kayaker,- had a terrifying experience when he was almost swallowed by a humpback whale while kayaking in the Strait of Magellan, off the coast of Chile.Adrián, who was kayaking with his father, Dall, suddenly felt something hit him from behind. Before he knew it, he was pulled underwater and found himself inside the whale’s mouth.

 He described feeling something slimy brush his face, and all he could see was dark blue and white.At first, Adrián thought the whale had swallowed him, but he quickly started rising back to the surface. After a few tense seconds, he finally reached the surface and realized he hadn’t been swallowed. His father, who was filming nearby, had captured the whole event on camera.Dall saw something large in the water and thought it was a whale.

He was relieved to see Adrián come up from the sea after the frightening moment.The father and son had moved from Venezuela to Chile seven years ago in search of a better life. After watching the video, Adrián was shocked at how huge the whale was. He admitted that if he had seen the whale’s size earlier, it might have scared him even more

For Adrián, the experience was more than just about survival. He felt as if he had been given a “second chance” and reflected on how he could live life more fully, appreciating the experience he had just gone through.A wildlife expert explained that humpback whales have narrow throats, about the size of a household pipe, so they can’t swallow large objects like kayaks or even big fish. 

The whale likely accidentally scooped up the kayak while feeding on fish. When feeding, whales sometimes hit or engulf objects in their path by mistake

.The expert also reminded people to be careful when using silent vessels like kayaks or paddle boards in areas where whales swim. Boats used for whale watching or research always keep their engines on to make noise, which helps whales detect their presence and avoid accidents.
