Piyankara Jayaratne, a former Minister of Civil Aviation, had previously been acquitted of multiple cases. However, he is now facing legal proceedings once again, with fresh corruption charges brought against him.
Current Indictment:
The Colombo High Court has indicted Jayaratne on charges of corruption during his tenure as Minister of Civil Aviation. He is accused of coercing officials to deposit Rs. 494,000 into a bank account in Chilaw, leading to financial misconduct.
In January this year, the Bribery Commission filed a case against him for misleading Civil Aviation Authority officers into transferring the funds, which allegedly resulted in financial losses to the government.

A loss of Rs. 128,520 was incurred by the Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority due to the printing of 3,000 Vesak greeting cards.
