The Northern Province Cyber Crime Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a suspect accused of sexually harassing multiple women through social media platforms.
According to investigative reports, the suspect used his WhatsApp account to send explicit images, obscene videos, and voice recordings to women, making inappropriate sexual advances and harassing them. Several victims lodged complaints with the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit, prompting further inquiry.
Investigations revealed that the suspect obtained the victims’ phone numbers when they visited his service center for motorcycle repairs. He later used WhatsApp to send inappropriate content, confirming his involvement in the cyber harassment case.
On February 17, 2025, the police successfully arrested the suspect, a 49-year-old resident of Pandulagama, Anuradhapura, as confirmed by the Police Media Division.
Following his arrest, the suspect was presented before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court on February 18, 2025, and was remanded until February 25, 2025. The Cyber Crime Investigation Division continues to conduct further investigations into the incident.
