Army Personnel Below Major Rank Ordered to Submit Passports

In a recent move aimed at improving administrative efficiency, all Sri Lanka Army personnel below the rank of Major have been instructed to hand over their passports to their respective regiments.

Army Spokesman Brigadier Waruna Gamage clarified that the decision is designed to streamline processes related to overseas training and official matters, particularly addressing delays in acquiring passports for these purposes.

Many Army personnel are frequently stationed away from home, which can result in delays when it comes to securing passports for official assignments. The passports, however, can be retrieved at any time for personal use, ensuring that service members' rights are not unduly affected.

When questioned about the possibility of the measure being related to preventing unauthorized absences, Brigadier Gamage stressed that the decision was solely for administrative reasons, and not connected to disciplinary concerns. This move highlights the Army's ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and support its personnel in managing their official duties more effectively.
