Vehicle prices go up due to lack of relief from the budget - Merinjage

Indika Sampath Merinjage, President of the Vehicle Importers' Association, said that the reduction in vehicle prices could not be expected in the future as a result of not receiving any import concessions as per the budget presented yesterday.

He also said that there is nothing in the budget regarding vehicle tax or import concessions.
He said that the government would not be able to provide these reliefs until the foreign exchange reserves were strengthened. He said these things can only be expected to change in the future as the government takes steps to strengthen foreign reserves.
Accordingly, the uncertainty regarding the price of vehicles in the market so far is likely to increase further and this has created a disadvantage for car owners as well as consumers, he said.
