Father Pillayanayagam appoints as Assistant Archbishop of Colombo

His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Anton Ranjith Pillanayagam as the new Assistant Bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo.
Father Anton Ranjith Pillanayagam, a 53-year-old archbishop, is the third Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese.The appointment comes as the third Assistant Bishop of the Archdiocese, headed by Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith. At the same time, the other two Assistant Bishops are Maxwell Silva and JD Anthony Jayakody, who was appointed in 2011 and 2018.
Father Pillainayam is currently the Rector of St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa.
Father Pillainagam was born on September 23, 1966, in Jaffna. He completed his primary and secondary studies in Colombo and Jaffna.
He studied philosophy at St. Francis Xavier Major Seminary in Jaffna and theology at the National Conference in Kandy.
He holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Jaffna, a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Middlesex (UK) and a Masters Degree in Philosophy from the University of Jaffna.
He has ordained a priest at St. Lucia Cathedral, Colombo on September 16, 2000.
