While Sajith faction contests separately from 'Telephone' ... UNP contests in 22 districts from the symbol of 'Elephant'

The Sajith Premadasa group of United National Party and some parties decided recently that they are to contest as Samagi Jana Balavegaya under the symbol of the 'Telephone', without securing support of the UNP in that context. Sajith in fact had thought that support of the UNP could be secured by solving the crises at hand while the UNP informed that as a solution for it that they would not contest only with the symbol 'Elephant'. 

In the process, the elections commissioner has been notified that the UNP would be competing
separately at the forthcoming general elections.General secretary of the United National Party, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam  has officially informed chairman of the elections commission that they would be contesting 22 districts in the island. As a result of this division, on a ground level the UNP members have had to divide themselves into two factions, political sources say.
